Which dog are you applying to meet? Why do you think this dog will be a good match for your home, family and lifestyle?

Are all residents of your household on board for adopting this dog? Have you had a family discussion?

When do you intend to bring your new pet into your home? Our adoption process is thorough but can be quick. Please only apply when you are ready to meet and bring home a new pet.

What is your back up plan for your dog if something were to happen to you? Where would they go/live?

Have you read the dog’s bio thoroughly? What do you think you will need to focus on in the first couple months with your new companion?

Have you ever rehomed a pet or surrendered a pet to a shelter or rescue? Please explain in detail.

Have you ever adopted a pet before? What was the biggest challenge you faced with your newly adopted pet? Please explain.

We require adopters who are adopting a puppy (under one year) to attend a puppy class of their choice with a certified force free/reward based trainer or facility, do you agree?

Do you plan to use a trainer, groomer, daycare or boarding facility? If so, which company?

Ruff Start Rescue Society is a force-free/reward based rescue organization that works solely with certified professionals. Do you agree to educate yourself and your family on what it means to be force free/reward based? If you have experience in this area, please explain.

Have you applied to meet any other dogs that you are considering adopting? If so, when are you meeting the other dog?

Do you have any upcoming travel or time away where your new dog will not be able to accompany you? If yes, what is the plan for your new companion?

Adopting a dog is a lifetime commitment. Do you understand that this commitment can be up to 15 years? Are you willing and able to make this commitment?

If the dog you applied for is unavailable, are you willing to work with us to match you with another dog that fits your criteria?
