At Ruff Start Rescue Society, we are dedicated to giving dogs who have had a rough start in life a second chance. Located across beautiful Alberta, Canada, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need, with a special focus on those requiring extra care, attention, and love. Whether they’ve been neglected, abandoned, or faced difficult circumstances, we believe every dog deserves the chance to live a happy, healthy life.

 

Our Approach

As a force-free rescue, we prioritize the use of positive reinforcement methods in all aspects of our work. We understand that each dog has unique needs and histories, and we work with them patiently, compassionately, and without the use of harsh training techniques. Our foster-based model allows us to provide individualized care in a home environment, where dogs can heal and thrive while they wait for their forever families.

We are a small, dedicated team of volunteers who give their time and energy to the dogs we rescue. From fostering and training to fundraising and community outreach, our volunteers are the heart of Ruff Start Rescue. They are passionate about helping dogs and work tirelessly to ensure that every dog in our care is set up for success in their new homes.

Ruff Start Rescue is fully reliant on adoption fees and generous donations from our supporters to keep our operations running. Every dollar goes toward medical care, food, supplies, and the ongoing care of the dogs in our program.
